Center for Postsecondary Research, Indiana University

The Center for Postsecondary Research (CPR) promotes student success and institutional excellence by conducting and disseminating research on student access, assessment, engagement, and persistence and by assisting postsecondary institutions and related agencies in gathering and using data for educational decision making and institutional improvement. CPR is a research center of the Indiana University School of Education.

      Data citation: Indiana University Center for Postsecondary Research (2018). Carnegie Classifications 2018 public data file, http://carnegieclassifications.iu.edu/downloads.php. This dataset contains data for every institution in the Carnegie Classifications online listings as of the last date given above. Included are each institution's classifications, most underlying data elements from which those classifications were derived, and selected additional variables from IPEDS. Proprietary data from the College Board which the Carnegie Foundation licensed for use in the classifications are not included, in accordance with the license terms. These data include: number of transfer entrants and percentage of undergraduates living in college-owned, -operated, or -controlled housing. All-inclusive classifications are time-specific snapshots of institutional attributes and behavior based on data from 2016 and 2017. Institutions might be classified differently using a different timeframe. Individual classifications are not updated with more recent data.
