Proved reserves of natural gas

(trillion cubic feet)

Russian Federation is the top country by reserves of natural gas in the world. As of 2017, reserves of natural gas in Russian Federation was 1,688 trillion cubic feet that accounts for 24.40 % of the world's reserves of natural gas. The top 5 countries (others are Iran, Qatar, the United States of America, and Saudi Arabia) account for 62.93 % of it. The world's total reserves of natural gas was estimated at 6,919.2 trillion cubic feet in 2017.

What is reserves of natural gas?

Proved energy reserves are estimated quantities of energy sources that analysis of geologic and engineering data demonstrates with reasonable certainty are recoverable under existing economic and operating conditions. The location, quantity, and grade of the energy source are usually considered to be well established in such reserves. This term is equivalent to "Measured reserves" as defined in the resource/reserve classification contained in the U.S. Geological Survey Circular 831, 1980. Measured and indicated reserves, when combined, constitute demonstrated reserves.
