World Trade Organization global trade statistics for clothing trade by country through 2016 reveal the following:

  • In 2016, China exported more clothing than any other territory in the world. China claimed a nearly 35 percent total global market share of clothing exports. Italy fell in the ranks behind Bangladesh and Vietnam. India rounded out the top 5, but with a mere four percent share of global clothing exports. 
  • As with textiles, the United States was the largest importer of clothing globally, making up 21.6 percent of global imports at a value of nearly $94 billion.
