Mexico is the top origin country of the U.S. green card holders. In 2017, 170581 immigrants living in the U.S. are from Mexico, accounting for 15.13% of all U.S. green card holders. The next largest origin groups are from China (6.34%), Cuba (5.76%), India (5.36%), Dominican Republic (5.19%) and the Philippines (4.36%).

By region of birth, green card holders are from Asia accounted for 37.68% of all immigrants followed by North America (36.69%). Other regions make up smaller shares compare to Asia are Africa (10.54%), Europe (7.48%) and South  America (7%).
