Among US states, California is the deadliest in terms of pedestrian fatalities. In 2016, 867 pedestrians were killed in road accidents in California. Texas and Florida have the next largest pedestrian death toll. But these three states also have the highest populations, so it is natural that they have more intense road traffic and correspondingly more road accidents and fatal outcomes. Accouting for population, the most dangerous states for pedestrians are New Mexico and Florida.
