Between 2018 and 2050, the number of people globally who live in urban areas is expected to increase from about 4.2 billion to 6.7 billion. With popoulation expected to increase to 9.8 bilion over the same period, the world's urban areas will become home to more than two-thirds of the people in the world. Urban domination will have implications for society.

  • Without proper planning and investment, urbanization trends could strain our housing, transportation, infrastructure, public safety, and other fundamental infrastruture and community servies and utilities upon which modern society depends.
  • Communities will also need to address climate change with sustainable and resilient development.
